Dot peen marking & reading of datamatrix codes

Customer's need

The customer would like to integrate a new marking and identification system on a manufacturing line which produces crossbeams for chassis (automotive). The objective is to read an existing data matrix code on the part, capture the encapsulated information, add more info and write a new data matrix code. Moreover, the previous code will be made unreadable. 

Advantages/ Summary

The system is made of an i83 dot peen marking head with an integrated camera. Since the camera communicates with the PLC via PROFINET, all the read information must be sent in a single frame. The information to be traced is:

  • Wording of the DM1 code
  • Checking grade of the DM1 code
  • State of identification of the DM2 code
