Datamatrix and Traceability Applications

Based on our experience with marking, vision, and automation, all custom systems described hereunder were designed, manufactured and installed by the SIC Marking team. Many other traceability projects have developed and implemented for our customers, all over the world. For further information, contact the SIC Marking teams.

Pump body traceability:

This customer required a comprehensive system that is able to identify the part and provide complete traceability. The marking system is associated with a custom equipment which tests if the pump body is water-tight.

All of the systems are synchronized by a small PLC, which communicates directly with the other elements of the application (PC software, marking system controller, etc…).

All results are centralized on a touch screen including the PC software “SIC Vision”, which checks and stores all traceability data.

2D marking with standalone system:

The customer required a “built-in” system which enabled simple marking of a 2D code very easily on small parts. The unit was designed as a “closed black box” in order to limit human intervention. Being fully automated, the operator simply needs to place the part in the dedicated position. Part detection, clamping, marking cycle start and verification of the mark with a vision system are managed by the controller, which in turn communicates with the company's ERP software.

Identification of automotive parts:

The application requested a completely automatic system that was able to mark several parts during one cycle. All parts are installed by an operator, and the overall cycle is to be managed by another controller. Based on these requirements, SIC Marking designed a marking system that included a small PLC and custom PC software. Within a cycle, the system is able to mark all parts and to check the quality of the 2D code at the same time. This custom PC software, based on “SIC Vision” architecture, grades the quality of each part at the end of the cycle, but will avoid trying to validate a marked part if surface quality is inadequate, even if all the other codes are excellent. This process guarantees 100% readability of marked codes further in the process, and the global storage system allows validation with pictures and reports in case of doubt.
